I had a really nice couple of days earlier this week in Orlando, Florida attending a pastor’s fellowship.  We had great discussions about church, played golf in wonderful weather, and enjoyed some Proverbs 27:17 moments—“As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.” God is moving in powerful ways in our land and I am grateful for the move of His Spirit upon us here in Austin.  One neat story I heard was the conversion of one of the Auburn University football players named Clint Moseley, a back-up quarterback. Rick Burgess shared with the team about a month ago and spoke privately to Clint who told him he had heard all about Christianity before but had never taken it seriously, but he felt this stirring in his heart and did not know what it was.  Rick shared the gospel with Clint and the quarterback repented and placed his faith in Jesus and was saved.  Now get this—Clint then led his mom, dad, and roommate to Christ!  You never know what God will do if we will only be obedient and do our part and share Christ with the lost. Another interesting thing I heard in Orlando is something I heard 12 years ago based on research conducted by Charles Arn.   Guests at church decide if they are coming back to visit during the last ten minutes after the worship service has concluded.  Not the first ten minutes of arriving but the ten minutes after the final Amen. If we take the time to speak to and be friendly to those around us who are guests they are much more likely to return to our church.  Put this info into practice this week. After the service has concluded instead of rushing out, take some time to speak to those sitting around you.  It could make a difference in their lives.

This Sunday morning is a big day for us here at Great Hills.  We are having a special missions’ service where our people will share testimonies and pictures of their mission trips during 2010.  I will close by talking about my trip to India then share a brief message from Matthew 28:18-20.
On Sunday night I am preaching from John 1:43-51, Jesus’ encounter with Nathanael.  I am excited about this message and look forward to being able to share the truth of God’s Word with our people.  You can view our services on live stream or download the sermons at www.ghbc.org.

I am so grateful to God for the ways He continues to bless my family and ministry.  The Lord continues to open doors for me to preach His Word and our national TV broadcast on DIREC TV is going stronger than ever.  Thank you to all who pray for and support DFEA.  If you have not ordered a copy of the new devotional I helped write then let us know and we can get one to you. Like last year's the folks at Thomas Nelson have done a splendid job on the books.

Blessings to you and yours this wonderful Holiday Season.  Jesus is Lord!

It has taken about a week for me to readjust from my India trip.  The older I get the harder it is to reacclimatize back to USA time.  One of the reasons I go on overseas mission trips is to remove me from my comfort.  I am such a routine person and enjoy my way of doing things.  But when on a mission trip overseas you have to throw that out the window!  I love the adage, “Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be bent out of shape.”  What a blessing it was to go to Lucknow, India.  God richly blessed our time there as we participated in humanitarian ministries as well as preaching the gospel and equipping the believers.  Last Sunday I made the statement that I hope in the years to come that every Sunday we send a team from Great Hills Baptist Church on mission!  My objective is to encourage the church of Jesus Christ to be a radiant, radical band of believers who worship God in every aspect of life, disciple each other with the Word of God, and then go to our neighbors and the nations with the good news that Jesus saves.

I was honored to write a week’s devotion in the new One Year Devotional Prayer Book II.  Pastor Johnny Hunt asked a group of pastors to participate in this devotion, and we have them available for purchase for $15.00.  My evangelistic association purchased these so please make checks to DFEA.  But if you cannot afford one I will gladly give you one.

God continues to bless and open doors for DFEA.  Our national TV ministry is going strong and just recently heard that there are those watching in Michigan and Maryland.  Thank you to all who pray for and financially support our ministry.  There is such a hunger in our land for the Word of God.  Pray for me and all pastors and evangelists that we would preach God's Word with humility, sincerity, boldness, and power.  (1 Thessalonians 1:5)

Dr. Jim Denison was my philosophy of religion professor while I was a student at Southwestern Seminary.  I read an article this week that he wrote and here are a couple of the lowlights and highlights—

Recent surveys reveal that fewer than half of Americans can name a single book of the Bible. Only a third know who delivered the Sermon on the Mount (Billy Graham is a popular answer). A quarter do not know what is celebrated at Easter. And sixty percent cannot name half the Ten Commandments.

At the same time, more than a million people come to Christ each week around the world. In 1900 there were roughly ten million Christians in Africa; today there are 400 million, 45% of the total population.

Yes, over a million people a week are coming to faith in Christ!  What an encouragement that is to the people of God.  Please pray for me as I leave on Monday to fly to Lucknow India to serve Christ and represent GHBC on a mission of mercy.  Our team, led by Pastor Finny Matthews, will conduct medical and dental clinics, a children’s camp, and a conference for pastors and Christian workers.  And we will also have a three-night crusade.  I am really looking forward to going and serving Christ in the great country of India where the people worship 33.5 million different gods!

Dr. Ralph Smith will preach at Great Hills Sunday morning October 31 and our own student pastor Chad Hampton will preach that evening.  I will miss you but I am very excited about going on mission with God to a country so desperate to hear the life-changing message of Jesus Christ.  Please pray for us, as the spiritual warfare there and here is most intense.  Whether in Austin or Lucknow, Satan gives up ground most reluctantly.

On Friday evening October 29 we are having our annual Fall Fest from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.  We still need candy!  Please bring bags of candy and place in one of the marked barrels on our church campus.  And as Brother Kyle says, no Sonic mints please!

This Sunday I am preaching from Exodus15: 22-27 on the Hebrew name of God, Jehovah Rophe—the LORD who heals.  During the invitation we will have a healing service.  Yes you read that right.  As James 5:14 teaches we will pray for each other and ask God to heal broken bodies, spirits, marriages, and any other request our people bring to us.  I encourage you to bring a guest who is hurting and during the invitation ask him or her to join you at the altar as we pray over them in Jesus’ name.  I have a problem with divine healers but complete confidence in the Divine Healer, Jehovah Rophe.

Sunday night I will preach on John the Beloved.  This is a biographical sermon on one of the great champions of the Christian faith.  God is blessing our Sunday nights here at GHBC, as many are coming to worship, training, and AWANA.  I want to give a shout out to Commander Jimmy and all those who serve so faithfully in AWANA.  This is a wonderful ministry that is touching many young lives with the Word of God.

See you Sunday with a word from the Word.  I ask you to pray like you never have prayed for God to visit us here at GHBC.  We need a touch from God on Sunday mornings that will change us and motivate us to reach our city.
