Happy and blessed New Year!
You cannot overstate the importance of a good foundation. Whether it is in your spiritual life, family, business, staff, team, etc., if you do not have a sturdy foundation, then you are already playing catch-up and will most likely suffer greatly. The work and effort that builders and construction crews put into foundations always fascinate me.
You do not have to work at Lowe's or Home Depot to know that you should always measure twice and cut once. Going the extra mile and giving added attention is never more necessary than when building your foundation. Jesus Christ has some powerful and insightful words regarding the importance of a solid foundation.
In His famous Sermon on the Mount, recorded in
Matthew 5-7, Jesus teaches us the life that His people should strive to live. It's not easy to do. In fact, it is impossible to live up to the Lord's teachings without the Holy Spirit empowering and enabling us.
Perhaps during this Holiday Season, you have rubbed shoulders with family and friends who do not know Jesus or abide by His teachings. You cannot help but notice the difference in your life, family, traditions, etc. You see people building their lives and marriages on sand, and it is heartbreaking. We know how it will end for them.
But as children of God, we do not become proud, only grateful for the grace God has given to us! He saved us by grace, and He empowers us to live for Him.
Read these words one more time:
"But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand." Take a minute to pray for your loved ones, friends, and neighbors who are building on faulty foundations. Pray for them to be saved and to start walking with God. And not only pray, speak up and brag, not on yourself, but on the goodness and power of Jesus to change entire families!
