Strength. Rock. Fortress. Deliverer. Shield. Horn of Salvation. Stronghold.

When I first read these passages I'm sharing with you today, all that God is for us JUMPED off the page at me.

Strength. Rock. Fortress. Deliverer. Shield. Horn of Salvation. Stronghold.

This week's devotions are written by my son, Bryant Forshee, Lead Student Pastor for Cross Church, Springdale, AR campus.

"I love you, Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my rock where I seek refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I was saved from my enemies."

(Psalm 18:1-3, CSB)

Once Freedom Weekend was over, the quote from the breakout session, "Read until you hear from God," was still fresh in my mind. The next day, I had prayed that God would speak to me through His word, and I was going to stop once I felt like the Lord spoke to me! I got three verses into Psalm 18!

If you have not already read the passage, please go and read it above. When I first read these passages, all that God is for us JUMPED off the page at me. Think about this, this is who God is for us:

Our Strength
Our Rock
Our Fortress
Our Deliverer
Our God
Our Rock where we seek refuge
Our Shield
Our Horn of Salvation
Our Stronghold

When I think about the fact that because of the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross, I have a relationship with THAT God, I am overwhelmed with gratitude and praise. I found that the only response I had at the moment was, "I love you, God!" When I had that reaction, I reread the passage, and BOOM! That statement is how the Psalm starts in verse 1! When I reread the passage, my heart's affection was toward God, and I began reading every identifier of God with the statement, "I love you, Lord, my _____," and then I would put in the blank whatever word came next in describing who God is from these verses:

I love you Lord, my Strength
I love you Lord, my Rock
I love you Lord, my Fortress
I love you Lord, my Deliverer
I love you Lord, my God
I love you Lord, my Rock where I seek refuge
I love you Lord, my Shield
I love you Lord, my Horn of Salvation
I love you Lord, my Stronghold

As we round out the first three verses of Psalm 18, it shows how close and personal this amazing God is! Not only is He all those things to us as His followers, but He is also close that when we call, He rescues us!
