Sometimes It Takes a Mountain

Sometimes It Takes a Mountain

Perhaps you are reading this devotion the day after Thanksgiving and are
having a particularly hard time. I hope today's devotion will encourage you.

Sometimes It Takes a Mountain

"My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing."

(James 1:2-4)

I enjoy most every genre of music and still enjoy the old southern gospel sung by quartets like the Gaither Vocal Band. Don't you just love Bill Gaither! He is the real deal and going strong in his 80's. Bill and his band have performed concerts at our church, and they always do a great job. Bill and I got to spend some time together, and he is one of the most delightful people I have ever met. I came across another Gaither song, "Sometimes It Takes a Mountain", written by Gloria Gaither and Mark Mathes:

Sometimes it takes a mountain
Sometimes a troubled sea
Sometimes it takes a desert
To get a hold of me
Your Love is so much stronger
Then whatever troubles me
Sometimes it takes a mountain
To trust you and believe.
Gaither Vocal Band - Sometimes It Takes A Mountain (Live)
Perhaps you are reading this devotion on the day after Thanksgiving and you are having a particularly hard time. Your difficulties resemble high mountains, troubled seas, and parched deserts. The Holidays are not the easiest time of the year for you because your loved one is not there to share it with you. Perhaps you have been hit especially hard by the coronavirus, whether physically, emotionally, or financially. I may not know what your mountain of difficulty is, but God knows. He sees. He cares. He loves you.

Ponder for a couple minutes the powerful lyrics from what is currently my favorite song in Christian music, "Graves Into Gardens":

You turn mourning to dancing
You give beauty for ashes
You turn shame into glory
You're the only one who can (come on)
You turn mourning to dancing
You give beauty for ashes
You turn shame into glory (tell 'em now)
You're the only one who can
You turn graves into garden
You turn bones into armies
You turn seas into highways
You're the only one who can

Please allow me to pray for you: "Dear God, I pray for whoever is reading this devotion. Please embrace them with Your comfort. Help them to cast their care upon You because You care so deeply for them. I thank You, Jesus, that in heaven there are no cancers, no viruses, no hurts, and no goodbyes. Until then, help him or her to stay the course, be faithful, and lean on You. In Jesus' name I pray, amen."
