"Put to death therefore what is earthly in you..."
(Colossians 3:5)
Where I live, we have had an awesome month of weather! My wife Kyndall and I have been on a walking kick, and we have loved it! Since COVID-19 and social distancing have given us a lot of free time, we have had time for a lot more walks than usual!
On our walks around our apartment complex, there are many ant hills. Now, I am 27 years old, a college graduate, a married man, and I have a full-time job; however, whenever I see an ant hill, there is a strong desire in me to DESTROY it!

Whether I see a small ant hill or a big ant hill, I just want to walk over and destroy it. I want to step on it, pull back quickly, and watch the ants go EVERYWHERE! I know some of you are thinking I need to grow up, but I also know some of you are saying a resounding, "Amen!"
With those I am helping to disciple, I have been going over the book of Colossians. In a way that only God can orchestrate, my fascination with destroying ant hills collided with Colossians 3 and produced an "aha" moment! This happened specifically in Colossians 3:5, with the words, "Put to death".
In the same way that I want to put to death the ant hills I encounter in my walks with Kyndall, I have to put to death the sin I encounter in my personal walk with the Lord. To do this, I must have INTENTIONALITY!
Putting something to death is not passive; it does not just happen! It is not something that occurs with ignorance or luck. To "put to death" sin, we have to always be intentionally fighting against sin and leaning on the Holy Spirit.
In Colossians 3, Paul gives a list of sins that we are to put to death. Go back sometime today and read this list of what we are to put to death in our lives as believers. Once you have read those verses, ask yourself a couple tough questions, and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you the answers:
What sin in your life do you need to "put to death?" How can you intentionally do that today?
