When We Pray

When We Pray

"When we pray, it shows we are depending on God.
When we do not pray, we are depending on ourselves."

When We Pray

"Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you
great and mighty things, which you do not know."

(Jeremiah 33:3)

We are having wonderful prayer meetings on Tuesday evenings at Great Hills Baptist Church in Austin, TX. God is hearing and answering our earnest pleas. I am so grateful to God for His favor upon us and the move of His Spirit in our midst. It is a blessing to see people coming to Christ and getting baptized, our attendance climbing and offerings increasing, and the sweet spirit of unity we are enjoying. Why all these blessings? God is answering our prayers. Praise His name!

I invite you to come in person on Tuesday evenings at 7:00PM or join us online on our livestream on Facebook or YouTube. We have 350-400 people praying with us online every Tuesday, not including those who join us in person. We recently closed one of our Tuesday nights with an anointing of oil and praying over one of our men who has a tumor. We are asking God to heal him completely. Would you like for us to pray for you? We will be glad to do so. Either come in person or send in your prayer request online.

Ronnie Floyd is a man of God who prays. He is currently the CEO of the Southern Baptist Convention's Executive Committee. I have known Ronnie for many years and consider him a dear friend in the ministry. He and his wife Jeana served God faithfully in Springdale, Arkansas before moving to Nashville, TN. He recently wrote these powerful and insightful words on the priority and power of prayer:
"When we pray, it shows we are depending on God. When we do not pray, we are depending on ourselves. Churches who practice ongoing, consistent, dynamic prayer bring about the greatest change in their community as well as their ministry across the entire world.

"Since God can do more in a moment than we can do in a lifetime, why would we not want to elevate the ministry of prayer in the church?"

The enemy of the Church hates it when God's people pray. He can tolerate much of what we do in our local churches. Satan is the inspiration behind some of what we do in church. (If you do not believe me, have you ever attended a business meeting? What about pastors and church leaders who sexually abuse women and children? These actions are evil and certainly do not have God as their source, but Satan.) So, if you plan to begin a prayer movement in your church, please know you will experience a resistance you have not encountered before. Most in your church say they believe in prayer, but they will not come. You will become frustrated and will question if you are doing the right thing. Why so much opposition? Here is part of the reason: When God's people pray, the Kingdom of Jesus advances and the kingdom of darkness recedes. If we could only see the battles happening in the spiritual world that affect our physical world, we would run to the altar every opportunity we get.

Still not convinced that you need to pray or that your church should focus on prayer? Remember, Jesus said His house shall be called a house of prayer (Matthew 21:13). James 4:7-10 teaches followers of Jesus to submit to God, resist the Devil, draw near to God, purify your hearts, lament, and humble yourself. The best way we do all this is through prayer.

Are you praying daily in your quiet time with the Lord and weekly with your church? If yes, then you know the blessings, power, and favor of God upon you. If no, what are you waiting for?
