Knowing the Will of God, Pt. 2

Knowing the Will of God, Pt. 2

God promises in this verse that He will show us the path of life. He will make it plain to us the path that we are to travel.

Knowing the Will of God, Pt. 2

"You will show me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore."

(Psalm 16:11)

On a few occasions, I have been asked to sign someone's Bible. It usually happens after I preach at a Bible conference, and I am always honored to do so. I will always add a verse of Scripture. Usually, it is a verse that has spoken to me recently or one of my favorites, like Romans 10:9 (my very favorite verse in the Bible). Pastor Charles Stanley said when he signs someone's Bible, he usually writes Psalm 16:11 as his Bible verse of choice.

God promises in this verse that He will show us the path of life. He will make it plain to us the path that we are to travel. I believe this applies to things big and small. God loves us so much that He shows us how to have a relationship with Him as well as a multitude of other things if we will only ask Him. To show us the path we should take is consistent with the nature of God. God would not expect you and me to do His will while not telling us what His will is! He wants us to know and is committed to showing us.

Another passage of Scripture that speaks to us knowing the path that God has for our lives is Proverbs 3:5-6 (my wife Ashley's favorite verses in the Bible):

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths."

God will direct us, but He expects us to do what He tells us. We are to trust Him, not lean on our own understanding, and we are to acknowledge Him in everything. If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, obeying God and seeking Him, then mark it down; He will guide you. Now, it may not be when you think it should be or maybe not even what you thought it would be, but God is just smarter than we are, and He knows what is best for us. He is a good, good Father. He is awesome, and He can be trusted.

Some of you reading this devotion are seeking God for some major things in your life. You are asking God to lead you to the person you are to marry, to the job He has for you, to the city in which He wants you to live, to the church He wants you to attend and serve, etc. These are big items, and I just want to remind you that God sees you, He hears you, and in His perfect timing, He will answer you and make it plain to you. Keep trusting Him, do not concern yourself with trying to figure everything out, and focus on Jesus. When God shows up, it will be very clear that it is Him, and it will be far better than you could imagine.
