"Although we could have been a burden as Christ's apostles, instead we were gentle among you, as a nursing mother nurtures her own children. We cared so much for you that we were pleased to share with you not only the Gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us."
(1 Thessalonians 2:7-8, HCSB)
Our last area to focus on in prayer is people outside our community of faith. That does not mean they are not Christians or people of faith; we may just not know.
I pray for our world, national, state, county, and local leaders by name each day. I do not necessarily know the spiritual condition of these leaders, but I pray for them by name each day. I had the privilege of serving as an ESD (Emergency Services District) commissioner in our county. We are tasked with providing emergency services to our area. I have served for 3 years and will be rotating off this year. I pray for the other commissioners and our emergency services personnel daily.
The world is a much different place than it was when I was growing up. It is much harder to be a leader today than it was 20 years ago. Our leaders need prayer and encouragement. Often, our leaders fail us, and I hate that. I pray that our leaders all have a relationship with Christ and walk with Him in all that they do. This is not always the case, but I can pray for it!
Now, here is the hard one: pray for people, even when you disagree with them. Danny Forshee challenged us to pray for national leaders even when our views differ from theirs. This was a hard one for me at first, but it became easier once I built a daily habit of praying. The prayer for leaders is all-encompassing and is an integral part of my daily prayer routine.
Imagine a world where all leaders were prayed for, even the leaders we disagree with. Would that make a difference in the world? Let's all try to find out!
What a blessing it has been to walk with you through these devotionals this week. I pray that each of you has a great end to your week and an even better week next week.
