"And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness."
(Colossians 2:6-7, NLT)
Two of my all-time favorite sports teams are Auburn Football and Pittsburgh Steelers Football. Some of you may have no care for these two teams, others, who I might say are Godly and walking with the Lord (kidding... but only a little), are GREAT fans of these two teams. I mention these two teams for a specific reason. Let me give you a little background about the two teams first. Auburn's Football team hasn't really been that great in the past few years. They haven't been to a national championship game since 2013 and haven't won the national championship since 2010! Pittsburgh's football team tied with the New England Patriots for the most Super Bowl wins but haven't been to a Super Bowl since 2011. The specific reason I mention these two teams is because they are in need of a RESURGENCE!
Now, if you don't know what a resurgence is, let me define it for you: an increase or revival after a period of little activity, popularity, or occurrence. Oh, how I hope that 2025 is the year of the Tigers and Steelers resurgence! Why do I mention these two teams and their need for a resurgence? I mention them because, if you were honest with yourself and with God, would you say that you, as a follower of Jesus, need a resurgence in your relationship with God?
If Resurgence is defined as above, a spiritual definition of resurgence could be this: you are distant from God and you get back on track. Do you need a spiritual resurgence? Do you feel far from God? Do you feel that your relationship with God is not where you want it to be? I would contend with you not to feel shame about needing or wanting a resurgence. I would even say that a resurgence in faith is a very normal thing to happen in our lives. We go through seasons of being really close to the Lord and we go through seasons where it is tougher to maintain that closeness. Wherever you are in your walk with God, we all need resurgence. We all need to either get back on track or just grow EVEN CLOSER to God in our personal relationship with Him!
How do we have a resurgence of faith? If you have not already, read the verses for today's devo. You have a resurgence of faith by continuing to follow Jesus! How do you continue to follow Jesus? You follow and obey what His word says! We let our roots grow down into Jesus and His words and build our lives on what His scriptures have asked us to do and not do. When we do this, our "faith will grow strong" and we will grow in our relationship with Jesus.
Follower of Jesus, if you want a resurgence in your relationship with Jesus, spend time in the word of God, getting to know God, so that you can look and act more like God!
Begin your resurgence TODAY!
