"On the day the Lord gave the Israelites victory over the Amorites, Joshua prayed to the Lord in front of all the people of Israel. He said, 'Let the sun stand still over Gibeon, and the moon over the valley of Aijalon.' So the sun stood still and the moon stayed in place until the nation of Israel had defeated its enemies."
(Joshua 10:12-13, NLT)
This devo will be a little shorter to READ, but you will still have something to DO with the extra time! In Joshua 10, we see a bold prayer that Joshua prays so that the nation of Israel can accomplish its task: victory over the southern armies. During this battle, Joshua prays that the sun would stand still, and that is exactly what happens. Joshua, knowing that God has given the nation of Israel victory in this battle (Joshua 10:8), acts boldly during the fight by praying a bold prayer.
His prayer is answered, and a great victory is had in the life of Joshua and the life of the nation of Israel. Think about the layers of victory in this short story: yes, there is the apparent triumph of Israel over the Southern armies (that one is pretty obvious), but the other victory in this story is in Joshua's prayer life. Think about the confidence and trust that Joshua has in his prayer life with God because of the sun literally standing still right after he prayed for it to happen. The other victory that is worth noting is the nation of Israel's confidence and trust in their leader, Joshua. To see your leader have that type of faith and trust in God to pray a bold prayer, and then the bold prayer comes true, that would make the nation of Israel feel really confident in their God and the leader that God has given them!
Here comes the part where I ask you to do something: What about you? Are you praying bold prayers in your life? Are you walking in the calling and mission that God has for you in your life? If you are, what bold prayers do you need to pray in your life RIGHT NOW? I am not saying that praying right now is going to make things happen immediately, but I am encouraging you to think about your life and where God has placed you and positioned you, and trust God to do great things with your situation. Think about some bold prayers you can pray, and have the faith to pray them. The answer may not be as quick or apparent as Joshua's answered prayer was, but just because it's not answered in that way doesn't mean God is not good or not powerful enough. The true victory in that moment was Joshua knowing that God hears him and is with him, regardless of how He chooses to answer, and having the faith and confidence to approach Him with a bold request. God is with you. He enjoys His children praying to Him.
Pray Bold Prayers... now! :)
