"I acknowledged my sin to You,
And my iniquity I have not hidden.
I said, 'I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,'
And You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah."
(Psalm 32:5)
This week, we will discuss the hope and forgiveness we receive when we confess our sins to God. I am very excited to share these devotions with you this week. May this week be a refreshing one for you spiritually.
One of my all-time favorite books is Hope Quotient by Pastor Ray Johnston. He writes about a time in his life where he was struggling deeply. He could not sleep, so he decided to go into the living room. He recalled 1 Peter 5:7 which says, "Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you." Then he wisely told God in prayer, "You have told me to cast my cares upon you, and that is what I am going to do right now, and I am going back to bed!"
God loves you, and He desires to reconcile you back to Himself. Some of you reading this devotional today are struggling. Your faith is weak as sin has hindered your walk with God. There is a spiritual dam that is preventing the river of God's blessings to flow on your dry and thirsty soul. My prayer for you is that you will turn to God in prayer and receive His liberating joy and hope!
I love the lyrics of this song, "If He carried the weight of the world upon His shoulders, I know, my brother, that He will carry you. If He carried the weight of the world upon His shoulders, then I know, my sister, that He will carry you. He says, 'Come unto Me, all who are weary, and I will give you rest.'"
God is very able and willing to do His part, but you must do your part. If there are things in your life that you have not dealt with, or there are unhealthy things you are currently engaged in, God says confess it to Him, and He will forgive.
Our primary biblical text this week is Psalm 51. It is a confessional or penitential psalm, much like Psalm 32. In Psalm 51, David humbles himself before God and confesses his sin, and in so doing, gives an example that we can follow. Again, God is ready to do His part, but He will not do your part. You must come clean with God and repent. Go ahead and admit what He already knows, confess, and let the healing begin.
