Picture Week: Fishers of Fish and Men

Picture Week: Fishers of Fish and Men

I love to fish for men, but to fish for fish, well, not so much. I do go on occasion. I enjoy catching much more than fishing. But not true fishermen.

Picture Week: Fishers of Fish and Men

"And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then He said to them, 'Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.' They immediately left their nets and followed Him."

(Matthew 4:18-20)

I love to fish for men, but to fish for fish, well, not so much. I do go on occasion, and I enjoy catching much more than fishing. But true fishermen are the opposite. They love the experience, whether they are bringing in bass or not.
As we wrap up our "picture week" devotions this week, here is a picture of my close friend, Fred Eppright, catching a bonito off the coast of Cabo, Mexico:
I texted Fred and asked if he ate the fish or put it back in the water. He responded with this picture:
Fred not only fishes for fish, but he also fishes for men. God has given him a love and burden for the Haitian people. He is the leader of a strong ministry called Elevate Haiti Initiative (formerly known as Baptist Haiti Mission). He and a small team traveled to Haiti recently for the first time since all the turmoil with the gang violence that is so prevalent in Haiti. There is much spiritual darkness along with much hunger, both for food and peace for the soul. Fred is committed to helping in both of these areas of need. EHI provides medical care through their hospital in Fermathe; they operate 240 schools providing for over 30,000 children with food and education.

I am honored to serve on the BHM's board of directors. If you would like more information on this vital ministry to the country of Haiti, please go to their website at bhm.org.

Fred also has served and helped so many in the war-torn country of Ukraine. God has called Fred to two of the hardest places in the world to do ministry. He said yes to both countries, and as a result, many thousands of people have been positively impacted for eternity.

Fred continues to bless me as his pastor. He continues to use his vast knowledge of real estate in assisting us with the sale of our current church property and subsequent relocation. It has been quite the ride, and Fred has been sitting in the front seat of this roller coaster; it has been both crazy hard and exhilarating.

How about you? Are you fishing for men and women and sharing the good news of Jesus with your neighbors and the nations of the world? If not, let me encourage you to get busy and do what you can to help as many people as you can so they hear the Gospel of Jesus. It is only good news if people hear it in time.

Have a great weekend! Thanks to all those who pray for our DFEA ministry and support us through your financial gifts; we are grateful to God for you!
