Helping Your Soul

"Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith."

(Galatians 6:10)

This week in our devotions, I am focusing on being positive and having a cheerful outlook on life. I have discovered that if I am feeling down, the best thing I can do is look around and serve others. You may think that is strange and ineffective. But it is actually true. One of my mentors in the ministry told me years ago what he does when he is downcast or not feeling well in his spirit. He said he goes to the shopping mall! I was wondering where he was going with this until he said, "I go to the malls and find lost people and share Jesus with them, because most of them are going to hell, and I am going to heaven!" It is hard to think of something more uplifting than helping others find salvation!

Our household of faith is Great Hills Baptist Church. Next month, I will have served as the pastor here for 16 years. Thank You, Lord. God has been so good to Ashley and me, and we are grateful to Him and the people of God for all their kindness and grace. God has allowed our church to pray for, help financially, serve, and minister to our own.

I am so proud of our church. We are about to enter a challenging and exciting season for our church family. By the end of summer, we will have moved out of our current church property and into a new place God has provided and prepared for us. After remodeling this new property, we will begin creating another place of worship in Liberty Hill, TX. In the midst of so much change, it would be tempting to give in to worry, be afraid, and begin to gossip or complain. But I am so grateful our people are not doing that. They are choosing to be positive, have excitement, and not miss a beat in serving and helping others.

How grateful are you today to God? ...and how much specifically for your local church? Have you taken the time to express your appreciation to the Lord and the church family He has allowed you to be a part of? There's no time like the present! Being grateful is such a powerful way to lean forward and not become static, or worse, slip backwards.

Take a moment and say a prayer of thanksgiving to God and then send a text, email, or old-fashioned letter to your pastor or another spiritual leader who has ministered to you. Trust me, it will make you feel better, and will surely bless the person who receives it!
