"Let the word of Christ dwell richly among you..."
(Colossians 3:16, CSB)
This week, I would like for you to do an internal evaluation of the different inputs pouring into your life. Input can be defined as "anything put into a system, machine, or process for it to operate, convert, or respond." So right now, think about the top three inputs you put into your body to make it "operate, convert, or respond."
With those three in mind, I am going to suggest five inputs that need to be part of your daily life or your weekly rhythm. I don't think any of these will shock you, but I want you to think critically about how much of these are input into your life. If there was a time slide next to each input that we discuss this week, how much time would be beside it? If there was a ranking of one to ten, with one being inconsequential and ten being absolutely necessary for survival in life, where would these inputs rank?
Without further ado, let's get into input number one: the Word of God.
How much time do you spend daily on the word of God? Now, I am intentionally saying "on" and not "in" because I think there is a difference. I think you have to have time "in" the word of God to have time "on" the word of God. See, time alone in the word of God is absolutely important, but if it just stops there and the time in the word of God does not permeate and impact the day, then you miss out on time "on" the word of God. So let me ask you again, how much time in your day is spent "on" the word of God? Are you meditating on the Word throughout the day? Are you letting what you read in the morning impact you at 2pm, 5pm, 8pm? Are you letting what you read in the morning impact your morning and afternoon meetings? Your time when you get back with your family? Your leisure time?
What does your inventory of time spent on the word of God look like? This is a major—maybe the most important—input we can have in life! The word of God is authoritative, true, life-giving, convicting, and so much more. How much are you letting it work on your life?
INPUT CHALLENGE: Today, take one more step to make the Word of God more "on" your life and not just "in". Set a reminder to look at what you studied in the morning again after lunch. Schedule a text or email to yourself with the scripture you looked at this morning so you can have that input dwell in you richly, like this verse in Colossians talks about.
The Word of God is a very important input that we must have in our daily life, every day!
