The Blessed Nation, Pt. 5

The Blessed Nation, Pt. 5

I will close this week with some words of practical application on how
we as followers of Christ are to live as citizens of two kingdoms at once.

The Blessed Nation, Pt. 5

"Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD,
the people He has chosen as His own inheritance."

(Psalm 33:12)

We will conclude this week's devotions by looking again at Psalm 33. Many are familiar with verse 12 and what a powerful verse it is. This verse is surrounded by many other verses that describe the character and nature of this mighty God who chooses and blesses.

The nation as a whole or the individual soul will be greatly blessed as they wait on God. Many are waiting on God and trusting in Him. True, if you are tired and weary, then you are hoping God comes through fast. He will indeed come through, but He will do so in His perfect time. Keep trusting and keep waiting.

All this week, we have looked at Psalm 33 and how blessed we are to live in the USA. God is awesome, and He has blessed us like no other nation in the world. I will close with some words of practical application on how we as followers of Christ are to live as citizens of two kingdoms at once.
  1. Our allegiance to God comes before our loyalty to our country. As much as we love our country and desire to be patriotic, if ever our government leaders or anyone tells us we must disobey God and follow man, then we must engage in civil disobedience. In Acts 5:29, the apostles told the civil and religious authorities, the Sanhedrin, they had to obey God rather than men.

  2. Pray for our nation and our leaders. Paul tells us to pray for those in authority in 1 Timothy 2:2. We are neither to worship nor demonize our political leaders. We are not to become engrossed or overly enamored with any politician, knowing that they are merely mortal human beings. We should applaud and affirm them when they clearly do things in alignment with God and His Word. However, we should speak out with protest in a spirit of love when we see things that are in clear rebellion against the Lord.

  3. Live out your faith with love and respect. Paul instructs us in 1 Timothy 2:2 that we are to "lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence."

  4. Be a patriot. Honor your country and be a good citizen. Being good citizens of our country on earth is important. But let us always keep in mind that this world is not our home. We honor our nations of origin, but moreover, we long for the day to reside in the heavenly kingdom with our Savior. As we sojourn admirably in this life, let us take as many as we can with us to heaven in the next life!
Psalm 33 is so powerful. It instructs us regarding the nature and character of our great God. It also makes a promise to all who will listen and obey: God will indeed bless those who acknowledge and fear Him.
