"And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness."
(Acts 4:31)
God hears all prayers, especially desperate ones. Last Wednesday evening, I called our church to a day of prayer and fasting. We are at a critical point in our efforts to relocate our church from its current property. We have seen God do some powerful, miraculous things, and here we are in need of His power to be on display yet again. We have had numerous, perhaps hundreds of prayer meetings at our church over the last 15 years that I have served as the pastor. But this one was different. The people humbled themselves before God and cried out to Jesus for Him to move in ways only He can and open doors for us. We are confident that God heard us, and He will, in His perfect timing, answer us.
Here is the plan we followed for our prayer meeting, and I include it here in this devotion in hopes that it inspires you and your church to do something similar. We can do many things after we pray but nothing of significance until we pray. We gathered in small groups and asked each person to pray, calling out to God for His direct intervention in finding us a physical place for us to worship. After 10 minutes of prayer in small groups, we placed on the screen the first verse, Psalm 34:17, and I asked for two to three people to come to the microphone and pray for our primary request guided by the verse on the screen. Then, we placed the next verse on the screen, Jeremiah 33:3, and we continued until we had prayed through all the verses listed below:
Psalm 34:17: "The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles."
Jeremiah 33:3: "Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know."
Matthew 19:26: "But Jesus looked at them and said to them, 'With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'"
Matthew 17:21: "However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting."
2 Chronicles 20:12: "O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You."
2 Kings 20:5: "Return and tell Hezekiah the leader of My people, 'Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father: "I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the LORD.'"
May the Lord bless you and your church as you pray together in Jesus' name for miracles. God loves it when His Church gathers to pray!
