"For the word of God is living and effective and sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart."
(Hebrews 4:12, CSB)
Growing up in the Forshee household with Hannah, Leighton, and me so close in age, there was never a dull moment. There was always something going on, and there was always something to do and people to do it with. Something very dull and not enjoyable in the Forshee household (and every household with kids or students) was the tiresome task of homework. I remember my mom always asking us if we had homework and reminding us to do it. One of the family jokes that is still said to this day goes like this: "Read..." Now, that may not sound like the funniest joke, but let me give you some more context and also share with you how you need to read (and hear) the word "read." You need to hear it more like "Reeeeead."
Here's the story: when Hannah was doing her homework, she would ask my dad for help. When my dad would go to help her, he would ask her if she had read the assigned reading for the portion that she was struggling with. She had usually not read it, so then he would look at her and say, "Reeeeead." He said it very often to her and would encourage her to keep on "reeeeeading". The family kind of picked up on this word, and we would say it then, and as mentioned before, we even sometimes say it to this day.
Why am I telling you all this?
I would encourage you, my friend, my brother or sister in Christ, to commit afresh, keep on, or start "reeeeeading" the word of God. How amazing it is that we, as followers of Christ, have the very words of God to instruct, correct, teach, and tell us about our lives. How amazing it is that God has preserved and kept a love letter for us and wants to spend time with us by having us read His amazing word? How amazing is the word of God?! I would encourage you, if you have been a follower of Jesus for a while, to continually pray that God would give you a hunger for the word of God and to continually have a reading plan that keeps you constantly reading the word of God.
Believer, are you "reeeeeading" the word of God?
If you need a plan, here is one you can do easily: Read four chapters of the New Testament a day. If you do that, you will finish the New Testament by the end of the year!
