"For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse."
(Romans 1:20)
The Apostle Paul states the obvious. "The things that are made" refers to the world and everything in it. It is the result not of a mindless force but of a Creator God. I approach this subject with confidence in the Scriptures and also with respect for those who totally disagree with what I believe. There are people not only in Austin, TX, where I live, but also around the world who hold to an atheistic position and are naturalists, evolutionists, and Neo-Darwinists. I do not agree with them but certainly do not hate them or wish them harm. If I come across in these devotions as passionate about God and His creation, that's because I am, but I am not mean-spirited. (Speaking of the city of Austin that I love, I heard this week on the news where one TV host said he believes that if Zohran Mamdani, the democratic socialist (communist) ran for mayor in Austin, he would be elected. That was sad to hear, and I hope he is mistaken!)
One of the fundamental and foundational doctrines of the Christian faith is the doctrine of creation. God created the heavens and the earth, mankind, and all that there is, and He did so supernaturally out of nothing, i.e. ex nihilo.
Genesis 1:1 says, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Psalm 33:6 states, "By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth." The reason for the impeccable design and harmony of our universe is the work of a Grand Designer, an Intelligent Being who created it all. The cosmological and teleological arguments for God’s existence are quite strong, as our planet and universe show all the signs of design and purpose.
Of course, many dismiss this idea of special creation and argue for evolution as the great cause of all we observe in nature, the universe, and even mankind. These adherents to macroevolution are referred to as Darwinists, naturalists, and materialists, and most are atheists, secularists, and humanists. They contend (some more vituperatively than others, like Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens, before his death) that there is no God, and all that we see and don’t see are the products of evolution. Everything and everyone are the results of a mindless, purposeless force called macroevolution. Living cells erupted on the planet from a primordial, prebiotic soup, and through mass mutation and natural selection, all that we are and behold came into being, as well as all that we do not see, like reason, logic, and personality. Therefore, they conclude, there is no need to believe in the existence of God.
Those who do not believe in God have to work hard at suppressing the overwhelming evidence that points to God as the Creator. Paul said we are all without excuse because it is quite obvious that this world was created.
