I pray for them by name each day. I have space on the card to write in specific prayer requests that they have. My prayers for them have changed over the years. I prayed when they were young that each of them would come to a relationship with Jesus; they both did, and they continue to walk with the Lord. I have prayed for godly spouses for each of them. God answered that prayer for Deanna in Scott. I continue to pray for a godly spouse for Andrea. I pray that they will find the path God wants them to walk and stay on it. I was blessed in my life to find my path early, and although there have been some twists and turns, I am blessed to be walking with God.
I pray for their protection in this world. I pray for them when they are ill. I pray for them when they have challenges in their lives. I pray for them when they have big dreams. I pray for their friends when I know them. Most of all, I pray that they will find the "will" of God in their lives and live within that "will."
I must admit here that Kathy did an excellent job teaching our daughters how to be godly young ladies. Kathy still talks to both daily, and they are an integral part of our lives. Their lives, too, have had many twists and turns; we delight in the lives that they are living.
I have also started praying for our extended family: my sister, my dad, my in-laws, my nephews, my nieces, my cousins, and more. I keep up with their lives enough to know what to pray for each of them. From time to time, I will send a text asking if there is anything specifically I can pray for them.
If you are a parent, I hope you will join me in this daily practice of earnestly praying for your children.
