"You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord."

(Leviticus 19:18)

I love this verse; it really sums up a lot about the Christian life. This verse also reminds me of my closest neighbor, my wife. Many of you know my wife, Kathy. She is a wonderful woman of God, and I love her with all my heart.

She is the second section on my daily prayer card. I pray for her every day. I pray that I can be the husband that God wants me to be for her. I pray for her health and happiness. I pray that I love her unconditionally and show her that love daily.

Kathy and I are big proponents of using relational needs in our marriage. We each took a relational needs analysis and try to meet those relational needs daily.

I even have her relational needs on a sticker on the back of my phone. Whenever things are not going well in our relationship, I can look at the back of my phone and try to meet a relational need that is not being met.

I read a book by another friend, Mark Dance, titled Start to Finish. In it, he proposes the following rhythm for relationships: Connect Daily, Date Monthly, Travel Quarterly - that really struck home with me. We need to connect daily on a relational level. We can make a once-a-month "big date night" and enjoy an evening together. Kathy and I love to travel, whether it's a regional trip or a big trip - we try to do this quarterly. If you are married, I encourage you to do the same.
