Flowers

Flowers

The song "Flowers" has a powerful message. It starts somber in lyrics & tempo as Samantha sings about a dark place she was in. One line brings me to tears.

Flowers

"And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them."

(Romans 8:28)

I love almost every genre of music. Ashley and I still record and watch each American Idol TV show episode, especially now that Carrie Underwood is one of the judges along with Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. I grew up listening to Richie. But Carrie is just on another level when it comes to singing. She won the American Idol contest 20 years ago in 2005. One of the songs she sang on the show a few years after she won the competition was, "I Told You So." This song was also performed by my favorite contestant in this year's American Idol, Breanna Nix. While we were watching the show a couple of weeks ago, my wife was also on the phone speaking with her mom. I was washing the dishes but got excited and belted out the words: "I Told You So!" Ashley just looked at me and said, "Please stop! I am on the phone!"

While I do like almost every musical genre, there is one that is my favorite, and that is Contemporary Christian music. Now, I know some of you reading this are die-hard Country music fans, and I get it. Others favor Bluegrass, some Rock and Roll, and still others like Rap. One of my favorite songs currently is by a new artist, Samantha Ebert; the song is simply titled, "Flowers". She and Seth Schlueter have teamed up to perform the song. I hope you enjoy it as well. The song "Flowers" has a powerful message. It starts very somber in both the lyrics and the tempo. Samantha sings about a dark place she was in. One line brings me to tears: "The rain won't stop pouring out my windowpane, and I haven't left my bedroom in 76 days." She has spoken about a very hard and dark time that she walked through. She writes and sings from a place of real pain and renewed hope. The primary message of the song is that we all go through valleys, dark nights of the soul when we do not know how it will ever improve. Those are the times God is sowing seeds in the valley. He is at work in the hard times. He has a plan, and part of His plan is to allow us to suffer. But we press forward in faith, knowing that God will indeed work it all out for His glory and our good. The flowers will grow in the valley. There is hope. God will come through like He always does.
