"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come."
(2 Corinthians 5:17)
Sadie Robertson Huff wrote a tribute on her Instagram page for her grandfather, Phil Robertson. After citing 2 Corinthians 5:17, she wrote: "As I was sitting with Papaw Phil today, I thought about this verse… he has already experienced this on earth—going from dead to alive by the power of Christ! It was his testimony that changed his life, our family's life, and thousands of others. Now he is experiencing it in fullness. Fully alive in Christ. The new has come. One of the last things he said to me was 'full strength ahead!' Amen!"
Phil Robertson's story is an inspiring one. He was a very talented man who grew up in Louisiana and played quarterback for Louisiana Tech. He stepped away from football to devote more time to his favorite hobbies: hunting and fishing. The guy who took his place on the team was Hall of Fame NFL quarterback Terry Bradshaw. God saved Phil's soul when he was an adult, and he was on fire for Jesus. Perhaps you have seen an episode or two of Duck Dynasty. Phil Robertson was funny, talented, and most of all, sold out to Jesus.
Some of his final words, according to his granddaughter Sadie were, "Full strength ahead!" He was not limping into heaven but sprinting. He loved Jesus and knew heaven was his eternal home. So, with great motivation and confidence, he could say, "Full strength ahead!" I am impressed by his final words before he went to be in the presence of Jesus for eternity. People on fire for Jesus and passionate in life and death are an inspiration to me. Their examples motivate me to give my all for Jesus and go out with no regrets.
Pastor Jack Graham once said we can end our lives in one of the following ways: we can faze out, burn out, rust out, or we can max out. I will take the last one every time.
How well are you living for the Lord and finishing in service to Him? We only have one life to live on this earth, and then we step into eternity. Will you on your deathbed reflect on all the mistakes and missed opportunities, or will you, like Phil Robertson, be forward-looking and fully ready to meet Jesus?
If you have not given your life to Christ, I pray that you will believe in Jesus right now and confess Him as your Lord and Savior (Romans 10:9).
