Like Riding a Roller Coaster

Like Riding a Roller Coaster

At times, life is like a roller coaster ride. That is the case for me and our church right now as we are in the process of relocation.

Like Riding a Roller Coaster

"I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."

(Philippians 3:14)

Like many of you, I enjoy riding roller coasters. I still ride them at age 60, and when I get off the ride, I am a bit wobbly! Some of the places I have ridden roller coasters are Universal Studios, Disney World, DisneyLand, Busch Gardens, and Silver Dollar City. My most recent roller coaster ride was with my two sons and son-in-law; the ride is called The Powder Keg. It did not disappoint!
At times, life is like a roller coaster ride. At one moment, you are exhilarated and flying downhill fast; at other times, you are slowly making your way uphill, and then there are times when you shake with a little trepidation. This life God has given to each of us is an amazing journey. At this phase in my life, we are wide open, spending time with our children and grandchildren, and serving the Lord at Great Hills Baptist Church and the Danny Forshee Evangelistic Association.

While having breakfast with our deacon officers last week, I shared that I am asking the church to do three things as we walk through the process of relocation: pray, be flexible, and be patient. I have been so impressed with our one church at two locations: GHBC and Connect Church Liberty Hill. We are on quite the roller coaster ride. Every week and sometimes every day, new challenges arise. Just last week, we got some great news about what we are hoping is our next campus. Then, I kid you not, on the very next day, we got some disheartening information related to the property we are considering. Up one day and down the next, kind of like a roller coaster ride.

Some of you can relate. Some of you right now are riding high with the wind in your hair and a big ol' smile on your face; life is good, and you are enjoying it. Others, not so much. You are moving slowly through life, weighed down with many burdens. You long for the day when you can get out of the valley and back on top of the mountain once again.

Let me encourage you to keep moving. Keep pressing forward with Jesus, knowing He has got you and will reward your efforts in ways you cannot imagine. He is worth our perseverance, even on the hard days. He has a plan, and as sure as the sun rose this morning, our great and awesome God will come through for you–in His time, not our time; He will make a way where there currently seems to be no way.

Take a deep breath as you wait on the Lord to move and change your circumstances. Pray. Be flexible and patient. Blessed are the flexible, for they will not be bent out of shape!
