I Don't Need to See It to Believe It

I Don't Need to See It to Believe It

God does not always communicate in dramatic ways; He sometimes speaks in a still, small voice.

I Don't Need to See It to Believe It

"But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him."

(Hebrews 11:6)

The title for today's devotion is part of the lyrics of a new song gaining momentum on Christian radio stations, called "Whisper and the Wind", performed by Brodie. Here are some of the lyrics to the song:

When I'm feeling my feet are tired
From running so hard for miles
You are the air I really need
When life is a rollercoaster
And I start to lose composure
You're in the drops and in between

And every time I'm stuck in indecision
Losing my vision
You close the distance

And I don't need to see it to believe it
For my whole life, You've been that all I've needed
And I, I've felt You in the fire and the rain
So help me learn to listen when You're speaking
'Cause love is not a secret that You're keeping
And I, I've felt You when walls are caving in
Yeah, You're with me in the whisper and the wind.

"Bodie Kuljian, known commercially as Bodie, is an alternative pop and rap/hip-hop musician, who has been active since 2017. He achieved 2nd place at the 22nd season of NBC's 'The Voice'. His 2024 song 'Whisper and the Wind' reached #36 on the Billboard Christian Airplay chart." (Source.)

Though Bodie was raised in a Christian home, he did not commit his life to Christ until he was in his twenties. It was while he attended a church worship service that he said the teachings and the community brought him into the faith. "From then on, his life changed drastically as he began to embrace his new faith." (Source.)

When God appeared to Elijah on the mountain (1 Kings 19:11-13), he saw some physical manifestations of God's power: wind, an earthquake, and fire. However, the prophet heard God the most in the gentle whisper on the mountain. How does God speak to us today? While He can communicate in any way He pleases, His primary way He has chosen to speak to us is through His inspired Word, the Holy Bible. He also speaks to us when we listen to His still, small voice or whisper. The Holy Spirit will prompt and guide you and instruct you in the ways He would have you go (John 16:13). I encourage you to be open to the Lord in any way He chooses to speak. He uses the dramatic experiences in life, no doubt, to reveal His voice and power, and He also speaks in a still, small, gentle whisper when our hearts are attuned to Him and our Bibles are open.
