"But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
(Acts 1:8)
In November of this year, I will be heading back to South Asia to a particular country that I have visited a dozen times. It is a country teeming with people, the vast majority of whom are Hindus, but there is a very large Muslim population as well. Christianity composes about 2% of the population. I made a commitment to Christ in 1997 after my first international missionary trip. That trip to Cambodia changed my life and my perspective about missions. The commitment I made to the Lord was that I would go once a year overseas and share the Gospel with the lost. I have been able to keep that commitment except for a couple of COVID years where travel was not possible.
Going on a short-term international mission trip is a wonderful way to spend a week of your life. I would love to see everyone in our church who has not already done so go on a mission trip. Many of our people have, and they will testify to how amazing it is to go and share Jesus with those in another culture who speak a different language. When we go, it changes us. It makes us see how big the world really is, and it helps us when we come back to the USA to be very appreciative of what God has given to us. Church members in America who go on mission trips are all the better for it.
Some reading today's devotion may think there is no way for you to go on such a trip, and you begin to make a mental list of reasons why you could never go. But every time I have seen someone step out in faith, believing God has called them to go on a mission trip, the Lord has provided for them all they need to go.
Are you a part of a missions-minded congregation? If so, then thank the Lord that your church has an Acts 1:8 approach to world evangelization. Reach out to someone and let them know your interest in going on a mission trip. Our Missions Director at our church, Becky Dean, does a great job in helping connect our people with their passion for missions.
I got the following text message today from our host in the South Asian nation I have been talking about:
"Looking forward to an amazing trip. Please ask the church to pray for protection and a great move of God." Would you pray for my team and me as we dedicate 10 days in November to going to the uttermost? Thank you!
