God has the power to do "exceedingly" (hyper - above), "abundantly" (perissos - superior, extraordinary) above all that we could ask or think. Amazing. God can do more than our wildest imaginations. "It states simply that there are no limits to what God can do." (Source: Stott, J. R. W. (1979). God's New Society: The Message of Ephesians (p. 140). InterVarsity Press.)
When I see the word extraordinary, I think of this quote by Jerry Falwell Sr: "God has not called us as His children to be ordinary but to be extraordinary." He shared that quote with all the students at Liberty University, and the current president also uses it as well. Falwell also stated that he wanted Liberty University to be for the Evangelical Christian what BYU is to the Mormons and Notre Dame is to Catholics. It really is amazing to see what God has done at LU. He has done exceedingly abundantly above. They have 16,000 students on campus and another 115,000 online. For convocation services that are held each Wednesday and Friday, there are 10,000 students gathered for worship and preaching the Word. It is amazing what God has done and is doing. Their graduating class in May was 32,000!
How does God do it? By the power of the Holy Spirit within us! "Power" is the Greek word dunamis. The word translated "works" is in the present tense, energeo, from which we get the English word energy.
How do we tap into this amazing power that lies within, a power that can do far more than we ever imagined? God always does His part, but He will not do our part. The answer is faith and obedience. These twin towers of the Christian life are the key to unleashing the very dunamis of God in our lives and in the church!
