"The Lord instructed Moses, 'When you go back to Egypt, make sure you do before Pharaoh all the wonders that I have put within your power.'"
(Exodus 4:21, CSB)
I have been following a Bible reading plan titled "Whole Bible in 6 Months." I was stuck on what to do next, so I found this plan on YouVersion, and it seemed intriguing! I recently finished the book of Exodus (as I mentioned, I've just started this plan), and it's been a very different experience from what I am used to. What I am used to doing is going slow and reading meticulously through other books. I chose this "Whole Bible in 6 Months" plan because I wanted to gain a broader perspective and understand the metanarrative of the Bible, rather than focusing on just one specific part or book.
After finishing the book of Exodus, I want to share with you a couple of things I was reminded about from Exodus:
Number 1: God did and does miracles. You cannot think about the book of Exodus and not think about miracles! Here are some of the miracles from the book of Exodus: the burning bush, Moses' staff becomes a snake, the ten plagues, the pillar of cloud and fire, the parting of the Red Sea, manna from heaven, victory over Amalek as Moses raises His hands, and the stone tablets. As I was reading in Exodus through these miracles, I kept thinking to myself: God is a God of miracles! He does miraculous things! I then began to think about the miracles that I see around me and that I have seen in myself. I thought about how God has saved me! I thought about how God has taken me from death to life and that I have a relationship with God because of the work of Jesus Christ. I thought about the work that God is doing at the church I serve at and how every week we are seeing God do miracles. I thought about the miracle of Tabor being placed in my and Kyndall's home through adoption. I thought about how God gave us the gift of Miller when Kyndall and I thought we wouldn't be able to have biological children. I thought about how even God giving us breath in our lungs for a new day is a sweet gift and a miracle from God. As I began to look for miracles, I saw them everywhere and all around me. I would encourage you today: take a miracle inventory, and watch as your heart and mind are filled with thankfulness and gratitude to and for the God of Miracles!
Number 2: God cares about details. Exodus 25:10-11 are the instructions that God gives to Moses for the building of the ark. Now, this was an essential piece of the community of Israel, but look at the detail that God gives to Moses: "They are to make an ark of acacia wood, forty-five inches long, twenty-seven inches wide, and twenty-seven inches high. Overlay it with pure gold; overlay it both inside and out. Also, make a gold molding all around it." Down to precise measurements, God gives the instructions to Moses and the Israelites. This ark isn't the only construction project that is detailed in the book of Exodus. There are instructions to make a table and lampstand just in Exodus 25. Why mention this? God cares about details. God is a God of detail and order. This specifically encourages me in my work. It enables me to know that everything I do, I can do for the glory of God. This is not just because I work in ministry; this is true of whatever your occupation is. God cares about it and wants you to give Him glory in it. It should comfort you and challenge you to consider that God cares about minor details. We need to be people who remember and realize that God is in the details and make sure that when we are in the details of life, we care what He thinks about them and offer them to Him.
