Jesus is Better

Because of who He is and what He has accomplished on the cross and in His resurrection from the dead, Jesus has replaced the old covenant with the new.

Jesus is Better

"By so much more Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant."

(Hebrews 7:22)

Because of who He is and what He has accomplished on the cross and in His resurrection from the dead, Jesus has replaced the old covenant with the new. The word surety, engyos, can be translated as guarantee. This is the only time this word is used in the New Testament. Jesus personally guarantees a better covenant than the old as seen in the Old Testament. This fact is secured or guaranteed because of His perfect sacrifice on the cross for the sins of the world, which include your sins and mine. (Source: BlueltterBible.org)

The Old covenant of law and sacrifices certainly had a critical role in God's economy of covenant relationship with His people. But Jesus in a much grander way has given a better covenant!

The song, "Jesus is Better," comes to mind. I first heard this song at Cross Church in Springdale, Arkansas, where my son, Bryant, is the student pastor. (Happy birthday to you today, Bryant!) We sing it often in our home church in Austin, Texas as well. I could listen to us signing it every month; it is such a powerful song. Here is the second verse, chorus, and bridge:

God, a refuge for me. My strength, it comes from Him.
My shelter, a fortress when I'm weak.
My strength, it comes from Him. So lead me to the Rock,
Defender of my heart.

Jesus is better. Jesus is better.
In all of my life I have never found anyone better.
Jesus is better. Jesus is better.
For all of my life I will never find anyone better.

More than my healing, I want the Healer.
More than direction, I want the Shepherd.
You are the Author. You are the Anchor.
You're every Answer. Jesus, You're better.

No one compares to Jesus. The life He offers to every soul is the best possible life we could hope for here on earth. Then, when it comes to eternal life with God in heaven, only Jesus makes that possible. I invite you to surrender your life to Him. Ask Jesus to save you from your sins and hell. Turn to Him in faith even now and be saved.
