"Also there were many priests, because they were prevented by death from continuing. But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood."
(Hebrews 7:23-24)
Other high priests had a shelf life. When they died, they no longer served God as the high priest for His people. But Jesus has never been prevented by anything or anyone from doing anything! They had to stop due to death, but Jesus keeps right on going, because He conquered death and is alive to this very moment! This speaks to us of Jesus' never-changing nature.
Jesus continues forever. What an awesome statement in the Word of God about our Lord. Death could not hold or keep Him. Up from the grave He did indeed arise, and He is saving and interceding for His people even at this very moment.
Hebrews 7:25 states, "Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them."
Jesus is able; the Greek word is dynamai. Be encouraged by the power and ability of God in your life. He can do anything, and when you receive Him as your Savior and Lord, He saves and guides you all the way into eternity. All along your journey, He also is praying for you.
"They would find that their Captain and High Priest could get the job done! He could lead them victoriously into the glory of the many sons. In this way He saves 'completely.'" (Source: Hodges, Z. C. (1985). Hebrews. In J. F. Walvoord & R. B. Zuck (Eds.), The Bible Knowledge Commentary: An Exposition of the Scriptures (Vol. 2, p. 799). Victor Books)
"Uttermost" is the translation of the Greek word panteles, which means completely, perfectly, utterly (BlueletterBible) or like an overflowing swimming pool. For you and I to receive salvation, we must go to God the Father through Christ His Son. God does not have grandchildren, only children. I cannot go for you or you for me. You must confess your sins to God and your need for His forgiveness. When you go to Him, He will save, forgive, and bless you with the greatest of gifts: Himself and eternal life with Him!
