"When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers— the moon and the stars you set in place— what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them?"
(Psalm 8:3-4, NLT)
Because of Christ, You are a new creation.
Because of Christ, you are loved.
Because of Christ, you are a child of God.
Because of Christ, you are with someone powerful.
I hope this week has encouraged you in your identity in Christ! I hope you know how loved you are because of the mighty work of Jesus Christ! I hope you can look at these passages we have discussed this week through a fresh lens of great truth!
Speaking of looking at some timeless truths through a fresh lens, that is what I want you to do with this song we are talking about today! The song is "Who am I?" by Casting Crowns. Some of you have never heard of this song; others have just not heard it in a while. Here is a refresher of some of the lyrics:
Who am I, that the Lord of all the earth
Would care to know my name
Would care to feel my hurt?
Who am I, that the Bright and Morning Star
Would choose to light the way
For my ever-wandering heart?
This is the proper response to the identity that God gives us because of our relationship with Jesus: Who am I? When you really begin thinking about the fact that God is who He is and we are who we are, it is a miracle that He wants to be in a relationship with us and that He cares to know our names. The song goes on to say in the chorus:
I am a flower quickly fading
Here today and gone tomorrow
A wave tossed in the ocean
A vapor in the wind
Still, You hear me when I'm calling
Lord, You catch me when I'm falling
And You've told me who I am
I am Yours, I am Yours
As we wrap up this week on identity. Let the truth of this song from Casting Crowns encourage you! Let the truth sink in that you can confidently say to God, because of Jesus, "I am yours."
