"Then the LORD said to Jacob, 'Return to the land of your fathers and to your family, and I will be with you.'"
(Genesis 31:3)
Moving is difficult. It means leaving what is familiar and stepping toward what is unknown. Jacob knew something about that. God called him to leave Padan Aram and return to the land of his family. Later, God would call him to leave Beersheba and go down to Egypt. Both journeys required Jacob to move when he could not see everything that lay ahead.
Notice what God promised Jacob: "I will be with you." God did not promise that the journey would be easy. He promised His presence. That distinction is important. We sometimes think that if God is leading us, everything should immediately become comfortable and predictable. Yet Scripture shows us that God can lead us directly into seasons that require courage, change, sacrifice, and trust.
There are times when God calls us to move physically, but there are also times when He calls us to move spiritually. We may need to move beyond an old habit, a lingering bitterness, a fear that has controlled us, or a comfortable place where we have stopped growing. Sometimes God calls us away from something good because He has given us a new assignment.
The question is not simply, "Am I comfortable where I am?" The deeper question is, "Is God asking me to move?" When He does, His promise remains the same: "I will be with you."
Today, consider whether there is a step of obedience you have been resisting because it requires change. Perhaps it is a conversation you need to have, a habit you need to surrender, a ministry opportunity you need to accept, or simply a step of faith you have been postponing. You do not need to know every detail before obeying. You need to trust the One who goes with you.
Prayer: Lord, give me courage when You ask me to move. Help me not to cling to comfort when You are calling me forward. Even when the road is unfamiliar, remind me that Your presence goes with me. Help me take the next step in faith. Amen.
