Courageous Obedience

Courageous Obedience

There is a moment when faith must become action. Moses heard God. He questioned God. He made excuses. He even asked God to send someone else. But eventually he obeyed.

Courageous Obedience

"After this presentation to Israel's leaders, Moses and Aaron went and spoke to Pharaoh. They told him, 'This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: Let my people go.'"

(Exodus 5:1)

There is a moment when faith must become action. Moses had heard God. He had questioned God. He had made excuses. He had even asked God to send someone else. But eventually Moses obeyed. Exodus 4:18 tells us that Moses returned to Egypt. In Exodus 4:29, he and Aaron gathered Israel's leaders. Then in Exodus 5:1, Moses stood before Pharaoh himself and delivered God's message: "Let my people go."

That required courage. Pharaoh was one of the most powerful men in the world. Moses was an aging shepherd who had spent years away from Egypt. Yet Moses went. Why? Because courageous obedience does not mean that you are never afraid. It means you obey God even when you are afraid.

The Bible contains many examples of ordinary people who were given extraordinary assignments. Gideon faced a mighty army with only 300 men. Jonah was sent to preach to Nineveh. Jeremiah felt too young and inadequate to speak for God. Yet God used each of them.

God often takes ordinary people and places them in situations where they cannot succeed without Him. That is not a mistake. It is part of His design.

Consider Rosa Parks. Her action on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama, may have appeared small at the moment, but her decision not to surrender her seat became a catalyst for something much larger. Rosa Parks, like Moses did not appear powerful or significant by worldly standards, yet one simple act of courage and obedience can become the spark for something far greater.

You don't have to be extraordinary for God to use you. You simply have to be willing. Maybe God is asking you to speak up, serve, forgive, lead, give, go, stay, begin something new, or stand for what is right. You may feel ordinary and inadequate. That's okay. The size of the task is not the most important thing. Your ability is not the most important thing. God's presence and power are what matter.

Today, don't ask only, "Can I do this?" Ask, "Is God calling me to do this?" If He is, then obey.

Prayer: Father, give me courageous obedience. I do not want fear to determine my decisions. When You call me to do something difficult, help me trust Your power and presence. Use my ordinary life for Your extraordinary purposes. Give me courage to take the next step and faith to leave the results in Your hands. Amen.
