"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, who does not change like shifting shadows."
(James 1:17, CSB)
While I was writing these devos, I realized the first four were about negative things! They were about a doctor's visit, a frustrating task, potty training, and a silly overreaction to football. So to end this week, and to maybe get you to listen to a new song (or an old song you haven't heard in a while), let's talk about good circumstances! To do that, I want to draw your attention to the song "Good Day" by Forrest Frank. Here is how the song starts and the chorus:
I'm 'bout to have a good day (good day)
No matter what they say (what they say)
Sun is shining down on me
Birds are singing praise
I'm 'bout to have a good day (good day)
In every single way
The God who made the universe
Knows me by my name
So it's a good day
Forrest is so right! "The God who made the universe knows me by my name, so it's a good day." I know in my own life, I am quick to look for God in the tougher circumstances. I want to tackle tougher circumstances head-on with the truth of God's word and grow through them. Something I don't do a great job of is bringing that same attitude to the good circumstances I go through! I have missed countless chances to thank God for a good meeting, a good meal, a good night's sleep, a good workout, a good nap, a good coffee, a good interaction, and even a good day.
So think about your last good circumstances: Did you thank the God who gave you that good gift/circumstance according to James 1:17? If God is the giver of all good gifts, then we should constantly thank Him for the good things He has given us!
I want you to see how the song ends:
Na-na-na-na-na (good day)
Na-na-na-na-na-na
Na-na-na-na-na
It's a good day
Seems a little weird to put those lyrics in print and have you read "na-nas," but I think it's helpful to see that regardless of any and all circumstances, we can confidently say "It's a good day" at the end because of the truth from earlier in the song: "The God who made the universe knows me by my name."
