"But as it is written: 'Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.'"
(1 Corinthians 2:9)
When Paul wrote 1 Corinthians 2:9, he had in mind Isaiah 64:4: "For since the beginning of the world Men have not heard nor perceived by the ear, Nor has the eye seen any God besides You, Who acts for the one who waits for Him."
These verses have an earthly fulfillment as well as a heavenly one. God blesses us with pleasurable things in the here and now as well as an eternal home with Him in heaven. As we love Him and wait on Him, He orders our days and blesses us immensely.
Do you get motivated and inspired when you have something to look forward to? I know I do. I had been looking forward to hearing Christian comedian Mike Godwin. He did his comedy routine at our church recently, and he was hilarious. Mike is a Christian whose comedy is clean and very funny, sort of like Nate Bargatze. I laughed so hard I cried when Mike talked about the different stages of life we encounter as we get older.
What about you? Are you looking forward to something in your future? ...perhaps graduation, the birth of a child or grandchild, a new job, a vacation, or a conference you are excited about attending? There are a myriad of things you could be looking forward to that inspire you in the here and now.
There are a couple of trips I am excited about that I will take with my wife in the near future, if the Lord allows. One trip is on the east coast of the USA and the other is on the West Coast. These are fun places to visit and enjoy on vacation. The West Coast will include a visit to San Diego and Coronado Island. Ashley loves both of these places and enjoys going there, especially in the summer months when it is 100 degrees in Austin, TX. For our 40th wedding anniversary, she and I will head out west later this summer and spend a couple of weeks being together and thanking God for the marriage He has given us.
The older I get, however, the more I find myself looking forward to heaven. Wow, I cannot even imagine what that will be like, can you? My mind cannot comprehend the sights, sounds, and atmosphere of heaven. Best of all, I will get to see Jesus!
Having something to look forward to both in this life and the next is a great way to motivate and encourage yourself. While we do not want to wish our lives away, it is good to have things that you look forward to doing. I hope you can carve out some time and enjoy some down time this summer with those you love. Put it on your calendar, and start anticipating how fun it will be!
