Our students had a great time at camp last month. Many of them made significant spiritual decisions, including six young men who surrendered to full-time vocational ministry. Praise God! Two young men showed up at my house unannounced on a Wednesday night at 9:15 p.m. They literally ran to my house, as they live in the same Santa Rita Ranch neighborhood. I had just gotten in bed (I know, I go to bed early), but I got up and opened the door. We ended up spending some good time together on my front porch as they asked me questions related to the things of God. These two guys are 17 and 15, and both have accepted a call from Jesus to serve Him vocationally. Don't you love how God is working in this Gen A group of young people, and Gen Z as well?
I served as the camp pastor for Go Tell Camp recently and had a blast. This was my second time serving in this capacity. This camp is led by my friend Rick Gage, a 67-year-old man on fire for Jesus and someone who genuinely cares for students. I was scheduled to preach six times in four days, but my flight kept getting delayed, and I missed the first night of preaching. God had another plan for me. I was able to share the Gospel with a lady who sat next to me on the flight to Houston. She works for the US Embassy in Doha in the economics department. She graduated from the University of Texas as well as Princeton University. After listening to her share about her life, she kindly listened to me share about my life and the relationship I have with Jesus Christ. She shared that she and her husband have no religious beliefs or background. I asked if there was anything for which I could pray for her, and she said yes: to get back home to Doha safely. (She had a 15-hour flight from Houston to Doha.) What a blessed time God gave me as I got to share Jesus with her. I told her I would pray that she makes it home safely and also that she makes it to her eternal home in heaven safely through Jesus Christ.
Then on the flight from Houston to Jackson, Mississippi, I sat next to a man who is a Native American and works for the Indian Bureau in Oklahoma. He was such a nice man, a former policeman who had worked on many reservations. He loves the Lord, his family, and the Baptist church they attend in Oklahoma. Instead of preaching to hundreds of fired up teenagers, I was able to speak to a man and a woman one-on-one about the goodness of God.
The Go Tell Camp at Mississippi Christian University was a blast. Over 100 students made decisions for Christ! I was blessed to serve as the camp pastor and to share five messages with the campers and the adult leaders. Three of the men, two of whom were student pastors, invited me to join them for dinner in the cafeteria. We had a wonderful discussion that lasted for about two hours about many things related to the ministry.
I am grateful to God for Student Camp!
