You made it to the end of the week! Here is a recap of the inputs we have discussed so far: God's word, prayer, community, and church. We are going to end this week with the input of worship music. How much worship music are you listening to throughout your week? Actually, just take yesterday for example: How much worship music was a part of your day? Did you participate by singing to the Lord and worshiping Him? Take a moment to inventory how much worship music was part of your day yesterday and is usually.
Why end the week on worship music? One, at the end of the devos that I write, I always try to leave you with a song that I am currently listening to a lot. Two, and more importantly, I believe this is a pivotal input that all followers of Jesus should have in their life. If you look at the verses for today, you see the psalmist say that he will "praise the Lord all my life; I will sing to my God as long as I live." From this Psalm, we see the importance of singing to God. If this Psalmist thought singing to God was so important, why don't we?
I believe singing worship songs is a great self-reflector. When you are singing worship songs, you get your eyes/thoughts off of you and get them on the object of your singing: God! This "eyelift" (please allow me to make up this word real quick) allows you to get a glimpse of what Heaven is like and also gets you out of the picture. Worship music puts the emphasis on Jesus and not on you. Worship music gives words to emotions you may not have known how to put words to. Worship music is a beautiful and powerful input that must be a part of every believer's life!
INPUT CHALLENGE: Make a playlist of your favorite current worship songs and play that when you get in your car. Take a break from the podcasts, radio, etc. and engage in worshiping King Jesus as you drive. If you need some songs, here are my most recent five that I have added to my playlist:
