Over the past two days, we have examined daily inputs that are pivotal in the life of the follower of Jesus. I hope you have internalized and evaluated your inputs of God's word and prayer, and I hope you have upped your inputs even in the past two days! Today, we are going to discuss a very specific input that I hope every believer has in their life: community.
I believe that we need to LIVE in community. We need to be known by the people around us. We need to be in community with our coworkers, family, friends, neighbors, etc. But for this specific input, I am talking about a community of fellow believers with whom you can meet, talk about anything and everything, and help each other with needs. I'm talking about a small group!
If you are a part of a small group, you immediately know the benefits of being in one! I have found that the best small groups have participants who are in a similar season of life. These people may all have kids around the same age, may all be empty-nesters, may all be single, etc. It is helpful to have a weekly gathering with those people and talk about spiritual things! It could be a sermon you have heard, it could be a curriculum, or it could be a time of prayer with one another... or a combination of these things! There needs to be a time in this input where spiritual matters, like your personal relationship with Jesus, are being talked about!
The two verses above show the importance of being in a small group. We need people to sharpen us and need people to share our burdens with! Life is HARD! Can I get an amen? What makes it easier to get through the hard parts of this life is obviously our personal relationship with Jesus, but Jesus also uses His people (the church), especially the part of it that makes up your small group, to help you in this hard thing called life!
INPUT CHALLENGE: If you have a small group, reach out to them and thank them for their involvement and input in your life. If you don't have one, talk to someone about joining or creating one today!
This input is not necessarily daily but weekly! It will let you know that you are not alone on this journey of following Jesus. It will let you know that you have people in your corner. It will be a great source of encouragement in your personal relationship with Jesus!
