What a powerful passage of Scripture that teaches us so much about God and the value of human life. I am a staunch supporter of the pro-life movement. Today's devotion is dedicated to our culture's most pressing ethical and moral issue. About 15 years ago, while at the Capitol in Austin, I was questioned by a pro-choice lady who asked me if the Bible had anything to say about this topic of abortion? I said that it did and showed her this biblical text, and her response was, "Does the Bible really say that?" Yes, it really does say that we are fearfully and wonderfully made by the Creator God.
Recently, the governor of Massachusetts, Maura Healey, signed a law that in essence allows babies to be aborted up until birth. Signing the Massachusetts Prioritizing Patient Access to Care Act on August 10, 2026, removed the state's 24-week limit on abortions. The popular and famous actress, Anne Hathaway, said, "My own personal experience with abortion—and I don't think we talk about this enough—abortion can be another word for mercy." I am sure Hathaway is grateful to her own mother for not extending such mercy to her when she was pregnant, yet she is as pro-choice as the most famous singer in the world, Taylor Swift.
I am grateful to God for the numerous pro-life ministries in our nation. These brave women and men stand up for the most vulnerable of all of us: the unborn. Here in TX, I think of strong voices for the unborn, like Jonathan Saenz and the group he leads, called Texas Values. Also, there is the St. John Paul II Life Center in Austin, TX. What an incredible place! It is right next to the center is the fully staffed OB-GYN Vitae Clinic. Ninety-seven percent of women who are considering abortion and come through the Life Center change their minds and decide to keep the baby! This ministry provides all services at no cost to the mom, and they even help them for three years after the baby is born to assist with needs (like diapers, strollers, clothes, etc.).
