"Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD,
The people He has chosen as His own inheritance."

(Psalm 33:12)

What a blessing it is to live in the USA! Our Founding Fathers' "great experiment" has turned out remarkably well. George Washington said on January 7, 1790: "The establishment of our new Government seemed to be the last great experiment for promoting human happiness." (I am currently reading Ron Chernow's excellent book titled, Washington: A Life.) Abraham Lincoln in his Gettysburg Address on November 19, 1863, stated that our government should be one "of the people, by the people, for the people." Interestingly, this quote originated with pastor and theologian John Wycliffe. He stated in the prologue to his translation of the Bible into English in 1384: "The Bible is for the Government of the People, by the People, and for the People." With important state elections coming up soon, I want to encourage us as followers of Jesus to be sure we get out and vote.

If you are 18 years of age or older, I believe it is your right and duty to vote for the candidate in each race whom you believe will do the best job of helping lead the most powerful nation in the world. I will vote for the candidate that most aligns with my core convictions of faith, family, and freedom. Yes, I will have differences with the person I vote for. The only person I completely agree with is Jesus; He alone is God and perfect! I will vote pro-life; it is the single most important factor to me. My vote will also go to the person who is not a socialist, but one who values liberty, our unique form of democracy, and our Constitution. Other factors among many that are important to me are a strong economy, support for those brave men and women in the military, and the police who protect us.

As the psalmist declared in our biblical text for today, the blessed nation is the one "whose God is the LORD." I know we have drifted far from the LORD, and we need a mighty movement of God, a revival that will revitalize our churches and bring a spiritual awakening that sweeps many into the Kingdom of God. Will you pray with me toward these ends? Pray that God would visit us again in power. We need Him; our nation so desperately needs a fresh move of the Spirit of God across our land.
