"Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow."
(James 1:17, NLT)
Recently, I heard a modern-day miracle that I would like to share with you. A couple of Wednesday nights ago, we were talking about miracles, and an 11th-grade girl got up to share a modern-day miracle she had encountered. She began to tell of how she was in a dangerous car accident, a head-on collision, and her car was horribly mangled. She showed a picture to the audience, and there were audible gasps from the crowd. She then told us that when the emergency responders showed up, they were shocked that she had gotten out of that vehicle. They said to her that they wanted her to go in to get checked for internal bleeding, and when she did, there was nothing wrong with her. She told us that she believed God did a miracle in her life and preserved her from any harm in that accident!
What a moment... but the real kicker was what she shared next. She shared that a couple of weeks before, she was doubting her purpose and identity as a follower of Jesus. She didn't really feel used by God and was starting to question it. She said that after the car wreck and seeing God miraculously protect her, she knew and re-believed that God has plans for her, and because He preserved her and protected her so profoundly, He definitely has more plans for her! She called it a "twofold miracle".
I was very proud of this girl, a junior in high school, who shared this twofold miracle in her life, and it made me look at my own life and consider the modern-day miracles God is doing in it. I began to slowly and surely realize that God was doing miracles all around me. Suppose miracles are supernatural and undeniable works of God. In that case, it doesn't have to be protection in a car wreck; I can experience a miracle every time I open the Scriptures, because God is supernaturally speaking to me through His word. I can experience a miracle every time I pray, because God is supernaturally speaking to me. I can experience a miracle every time I have a great meal, because James says that every good and perfect gift is from above. I can credit a great meal, a great workout, or anything good to our great, miraculous God, and experience modern-day miracles throughout my day.
Today, look for the modern-day miracles! It may be a miraculous deliverance, or it might be a miraculous word He gives you through your quiet time. Whatever it looks like, be looking for the miraculous today! God is moving around and in you, so be looking for it, and marvel at the miracles!
